A Curriculum Built Around the Pupils in Front of Us

Our child-centred curriculum combines strong academics, specialist teaching and enrichment. With small classes and clear progression from Pre-Primary to 6th Class, pupils develop confidence, independence and the skills they need for what comes next.

Curriculum Overview

At Castle Park, teaching and learning are carefully planned, purposeful and child-centred. We deliver the Irish Primary Curriculum through High Performance Learning, high expectations, strong relationships and a wide range of experiences that support academic, social and personal development.

Lessons are purposeful and engaging, with clear learning aims so pupils understand what they are learning, why it matters and how they can succeed. Small class sizes allow teachers to know each child well and adapt learning to build progress, confidence and independence.

Our curriculum is broad and balanced, linked across subjects, combining a strong academic core with specialist subjects, creativity, sport, performance and wellbeing. Learning builds steadily from Pre-Primary to 6th Class, with knowledge and skills revisited and built on year on year.

How Learning Works

Learning at Castle Park is structured, clear and progressive:

  • Built on the Irish Primary Curriculum, enriched and extended throughout
  • Clear learning aims shared at the start of lessons
  • Strong questioning, discussion and practical learning
  • A spiral approach, where skills are revisited and deepened over time
  • High Performance Learning (HPL) embedded and linked across subjects, developing thinking skills, attitudes and learning habits in every pupil

Specialist Teaching from an Early Age

Specialist teaching is a core part of the Castle Park curriculum. From the early years, pupils are taught by expert teachers in areas such as Physical Education, Music, Drama and Art, with Science, Languages and Technology introduced as they progress.

Early exposure allows pupils to discover strengths, build confidence and develop skills across a wide range of subjects. It also prepares them to work comfortably with different teachers, supporting a smooth transition to secondary school.

Small Classes, Individual Attention

Deliberately small class sizes mean every child is known as an individual. Strengths are recognised, needs are identified early and learning can be supported or extended where necessary.

Parents consistently value the personalised approach, clear communication and strong partnership between home and school.

Progression from Pre-Primary to 6th Class

Learning develops in clear, age-appropriate stages:

  • Pre-Primary: play-based learning, curiosity and strong social foundations
  • Junior and Senior Infants: increased structure, specialist teaching and academic challenge
  • 1st to 6th Class: independence, leadership and responsibility

Skills are layered over time. For example, communication, performance and teamwork develop from early group activities through to large-scale productions, presentations and leadership roles in later years.

What Pupils Leave With
