The first school in Ireland to be recognised as an HPL World Class School

High Performance Learning is a research-based framework used by schools around the world. It starts from a single premise: that high performance is not a gift some children are born with. It is a set of behaviours, attitudes and thinking skills that can be taught, practised and developed by any child.

In 2024, Castle Park became the first school in Ireland to be awarded World Class School status by HPL – joining a global network of schools recognised for the depth and consistency with which they put this into practice.

What this means in a classroom

In most schools, a lesson ends when the right answer is found. At Castle Park, that is often where the lesson begins. Our teachers plan explicitly for how pupils think, not just what they learn. They ask pupils to make connections across subjects, to reflect on how they approached a problem, to push further when something feels difficult.

This is not about pressure or performance. It is about building pupils who are genuinely curious, who know how to handle a challenge, and who believe – through experience, not encouragement – that they are capable of more than they thought.

What it looks like for your child

Pupils at Castle Park develop what HPL calls Advanced Cognitive Performance Characteristics – the habits of mind that distinguish strong thinkers. These include the ability to make connections, to think creatively, to reason carefully and to keep going when something is hard.

Alongside these, they develop the values and attitudes that make those cognitive skills useful in the real world: confidence, intellectual courage, empathy and a genuine appetite for learning.

By the time a pupil leaves Castle Park, they do not just have strong academic foundations. They have a particular relationship with challenge – they welcome it. Secondary schools tell us this consistently. It is the quality that sets our pupils apart.
