Every child learns differently. Our support and enrichment provision is tailored to each pupil – whether that means extra help, a different approach or greater challenge.
Support and Challenge for Every Learner
Individual Support, From the Start
At Castle Park, we recognise that every child learns differently. At times, a pupil may need extra support, a different approach or further challenge beyond the classroom. Our learning support provision is designed to meet these needs in a calm, structured and supportive way – helping every pupil feel confident and capable.
Identifying When Support Is Needed
We use a careful and collaborative approach to understanding each pupil’s needs. This includes classroom observations, assessments and day-to-day learning behaviours, alongside parental insight and specialist screening where appropriate. Indicators may include gaps in key skills, tasks that are consistently too easy or too challenging, changes in confidence or engagement, or a need for extension tasks.
What Support Looks Like
Support is flexible and tailored to each pupil. Depending on need, this may include one-to-one reading sessions, small-group work to reinforce literacy or numeracy, in-class strategies such as visual supports or breaking tasks into steps, and targeted interventions such as phonics or maths fluency programmes. Pupils may also receive organisational support to build routines and independence, as well as emotional and social support in our designated Chill Out Room.
How We Work Together
-
Working together
Class teachers and the learning support team work closely to ensure a consistent and collaborative approach. This includes sharing observations and assessment information, planning strategies together, reviewing progress regularly and communicating clearly with families. Support is continually adapted to ensure it remains appropriate and effective.
-
Enrichment and high-potential learning
In line with our High Performance Learning ethos, enrichment opportunities are available to all pupils. These include extension tasks, open-ended challenges, research projects and creative problem-solving activities, clubs in areas such as coding, maths, science and the arts, as well as competitions, performances and leadership opportunities. Enrichment ensures that pupils who need greater challenge remain engaged, motivated and stretched.
-
Supporting families
Parents value the clarity and care of our approach. Progress is shared through regular meetings, Individual Support Plans and clear next steps for both school and home. We prioritise early intervention, open communication and celebrating success alongside addressing challenges.
-
Wellbeing spaces
Children benefit from access to calm, supportive spaces across the school, including the Chill Out Room for emotional regulation, a Sensory Garden used during play and wellbeing activities, and quiet classroom spaces for focus and reflection.
-
English as an Additional Language (EAL)
We can also provide targeted English language support for pupils whose first language is not English, helping them fully access the curriculum and feel confident and settled within the school community.
