Learning Support
Additional Learning Department
At some point in every child’s school journey, they may need a little extra care and support. While many needs can be met through a differentiated approach within the classroom, some children benefit from more focused assistance in a one-to-one or small group setting, whether for physical, emotional, social reasons, or specific learning difficulties.
At Castle Park, our academic staff work closely with the Director of Additional Learning and parents to identify when a pupil might require additional support. Together, we follow a structured process of assessment, planning, and review to ensure each child receives the personalised help they need.
Our Additional Learning (AL) Department is a small team of skilled and experienced teachers and assistants, dedicated to supporting every child’s learning journey. They foster self-confidence, collaborate closely with classroom teachers, and liaise with parents and external specialists, such as Educational Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, and Speech and Language Therapists when necessary.
We also offer calm and nurturing spaces where pupils can practise self-regulation and develop social-emotional skills. Alongside quiet areas in classrooms, our “Chill Out” room provides a supportive environment that promotes well-being and a positive school culture. Additionally, our Sensory Garden offers a tranquil outdoor space for pupils to enjoy during playtime or as part of their well-being support.
English as an Additional Language (EAL)
English language support is available for pupils whose first language is not English. This support helps them access the mainstream curriculum, integrate into school life, and participate fully in the Castle Park community.
