Form V have had a wonderful fortnight exploring the rich and diverse music of Africa and learning new skills on the ukulele. The pupils learnt how to play lots of melodies, with ‘Hedwig’s Theme’ from Harry Potter being a firm favourite. Bells, chimes and other percussion instruments were also added to our performance to make it sound extra magical.
In our research on African music, we learnt about the beautiful ‘Kora’ instrument from West Africa, also known as the African Harp. And we also had fun with Body Percussion, adding beats, clicks and claps to the song ‘Banaha’ from Congo.
