News from the Classroom – Form II
It has been a busy few weeks for Form II. One of the major highlights was honing their drama skills in preparation for their class plays, ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’ and ‘Snow White and the Poisoned Grape’. The children worked hard during rehearsals and gave outstanding performances on the night.
In literacy, we have been examining the book – ‘The Fantastic Mr Fox’, where character study and adjectives have been the main focus.
In Maths class, the children have worked on symmetry, see the fun we had creating symmetrical patterns with elastics in the picture gallery! We have also explored ‘halves and doubles’ and have just begun work on ‘subtraction with renaming’. The children learnt a little rhyme to help them:
“More on top? Don’t stop.
More on the floor? Pop next door, to get ten more.
Are the numbers the same? Zero’s the game!”
In Gaeilge lessons, Form II made and decorated their own houses, learning the vocabulary for the different rooms and their contents.
Well-being has taken centre stage in our S.E.A.L lessons, where we have introduced a new programme, ‘Weaving Well-Being’. Through this programme, the children will explore well-being and how to feel healthy and strong in mind and body. As our school motto goes, “Mens Sana in Corpore Sano – A Healthy Mind in a Healthy Body”.
We had our first outing of the year today. We travelled to the Pine Forest Arts Centre where we enjoyed lots of art and craft activities and a mountain walk.
